How many casts to level up?
XP Per Cast
floor(cooldown × 1.2 × xpMultiplier)
Verified against all spell CDOs. Higher cooldown or multiplier = more XP per cast.
First Cast Bonus
+200 XP (once per school per run)
The very first cast of any spell from a new school gives an extra 200 XP, once per mission. Each school gets it independently.
Level Threshold
1000 XP per level
Each level costs exactly 1000 XP. Level = floor(total XP ÷ 1000) + 1.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How many casts does it take to level up a spell school?
- Each level requires exactly 1000 XP. The number of casts depends on the spell — high-cooldown spells like Contagion (80s) give 96 XP per cast, meaning as few as 11 casts per level.
- How is spell XP calculated?
- XP per cast = floor(cooldown × 1.2 × xpMultiplier). A 30s cooldown spell with a 1.5× multiplier gives floor(30 × 1.2 × 1.5) = 54 XP per cast.
- Does difficulty affect spell XP?
- No. Difficulty scaling does not apply to spell school XP. Every cast gives identical XP regardless of difficulty setting.
- What is the first cast bonus?
- The first time you cast any spell from a new school in a mission, you receive a +200 XP bonus on top of the normal per-cast XP. This applies once per school per mission. Each school you cast gets the bonus independently on its first cast.
- Can I multicast to level up faster?
- Yes — slot up to 3 spells in a rotation. Because spells cast simultaneously, rotation time equals the longest cooldown while total XP per rotation sums across all spells cast.
- What levels do new spells unlock?
- Each school has 5 spells unlocking at levels 1, 4, 12, 20, and 35.
